THOUSANDS OF Junior Certificate students celebrated their results last night at specially organised events in nightclubs throughout the country.
In Dublin, more than 1,200 students danced the night away in Bondi Beach Club on Ormond Quay. Manager Vincent Corley said security was tight for the night, with 15 security staff, five door staff, two medics and four managers on duty.
“We’re operating a very strict no-alcohol policy for the night. Anyone who has had alcohol will be refused, with even hairspray being confiscated,” he said.
“I just rang the parents of a girl who tried to gain entry after drinking alcohol, and told them to come collect her.”
Rebecca Monaghan was at the event with her friends from St Joseph’s College in Lucan. “I got five passes in my results, and would have preferred to have only got three, but I’m happy,” she said.
Also at the event was Adam Walsh (16), a student at Synge Street CBS. He said he was very surprised with his maths result as he had done very little work and was “looking forward to the night ahead”.
Gardaí on duty at the event said there had been no trouble and no alcohol confiscated, but added “it’s early yet”.
In Clontarf, there was a long line of students queuing at Barcode nightclub from 7pm.
Among the revellers was Alecia O’Regan Cazabon, a student at Pobailscoil Neasain in Baldoyle.
“I’m really looking forward to spending the night with my friends, as I’m in 5th year this year, but they are all doing transition year,” she said.
Ian Harris (14), a student at Coláiste Mhuire in Cabra, said he was thrilled with his science result, as the exam was particularly difficult having to be done “as Gaeilge”.
Jodie Lyons (15), a pupil at St Joseph’s secondary school in Rush, Co Dublin, said: “I did alright but I could have done better. My ma was delighted though”.
Asked what the best part of results night was, she said: “The boys!”
In Mayo hundreds of students were entertained by bouncing castles, a gigantic wall of terror and blast dancers at the Royal theatre and event centre in Castlebar, while in Limerick, those celebrating their results were treated to DJ Ironik at the Trinity Rooms.
