The associations representing members of the Garda and the Defence Forces have said that, because they are not party to the national pay deal negotiated between the Government and representatives of other public sector employees, they do not feel bound by the terms.

Meetings between the Government and security force bodies on December 9th and 13th failed to resolve the associations' demand to be represented at the pay talks. The meetings were attended by GRA, PDFORRA, AGSI, the Association of Garda Superintendents, RACO and the Association of Garda Chief Superintendents, which between them represent 20,000 members of the security forces.
