The pipe-bomb exploded in the front garden causing damage to a window.

SDLP member for east Derry, Mr John Dallat condemned the attack, the third on this Catholic family in Coleraine over the past five years.

The family have also been the victim of a petrol bomb attack and had a number of men force their way into their home.

Mr Dallat said the family are now determined to leave the area as they have two teenage sons aged 15 and 16-years-of-age and are concerned for their safety.

He said there is no apparent reason for the attacks by the "ruthless gang" as the family is "quiet" and involved in cross-community football. However, Mr Dallat added this is not the only incidence of repeated and unwarranted attacks in the Coleraine area.

The RUC is continuing its investigation.
