A second quantity of explosives has been found near the Border in Co Monaghan

A second quantity of explosives has been found near the Border in Co Monaghan. Gardaí investigating the activities of dissident republicans confirmed this afternoon they had recovered 110 lbs of home made explosives, four rolls of detonation wire and 14 pounds of a substance suspected to be explosive mixture.

The find was made in the small wooded area of Clonoula near Clones close to the border with Fermanagh.

Gardaí also found a quantity of drugs at the scene including9 bars of cannabis and 150 ecstasy tablets.

Last Sunday Gardaí discovered sixty kilos of home made explosives hidden in a milk churn in the same area. They were believed to belong to dissident republicans. Today’s find comes as a result of follow-up searches.
