THIRD-level students are invited to enter the annual biochemistry science writing competition organised by the Royal Irish Academy in association with Yamanouchi Ireland Co Ltd and The Irish Times. The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students both North and South.

Entrants are asked to write a 2,000-word newspaper article which must be easily understood by the non-scientific reader. It should explain any new topic in biochemistry and its significance to medical, agricultural or industrial practices, and the entrant may use photographs, graphics or tables to illustrate it.

The winning entrant will receive £200, sponsored by Yamanouchi and the article will be published in The Irish Times. The closing date for entries is January 20th, 1997, and further details are available from the national committee for biochemistry at the Royal Irish Academy, Academy House, 19 Dawson Street, Dublin 2.
