Russia:Satellite technology has led to the arrest of two men for the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya, according to Russian media reports.

Although the Russian prosecutor general has declined to comment, pro-Kremlin newspapers in Moscow report that two Chechen men have been arrested for shooting the reporter in the lift of her apartment building last October.

Colleagues of Politkovskaya from the intellectual paper Novaya Gazetawere sceptical of the latest reports however, insisting it contradicted their own information about the events leading up to her murder.

The latest reports suggest that satellite images of Moscow revealed the two attackers. Satellites were focused on the capital at the time as a special security precaution to protect President Putin from any terror attack to coincide with his birthday.

Politkovskaya, who was a critic of the Kremlin and an ardent human rights campaigner, had written extensively about Chechnya. Until now, Russian investigators have failed to establish a lead to her killers.

The Kremlin has also rejected suggestions it was behind her death.
