CAPE TOWN - South Africa's Welfare and Population Development Minister, Mr Abe Williams, yesterday resigned his post following allegations that he was involved in the fraudulent use of pension money, according to public SABC television.
Mr Williams is one of seven members of the conservative National Party in Mr Nelson Maadela's 32 member national unity government.
Police from the Office of Serious Economic Offences earlier yesterday raided Mr Williams's offices and homes in Cape Town and in Pretoria while he was attending a cabinet meeting. The police were investigating pension money fraud running into millions of rand.
