The trade group for Ryanair, EasyJet and other discount airlines has complained to European Union regulators about Italian subsidies for Alitalia SpA, the carrier being bought out in a government-arranged rescue.
The European Low Fares Airline Association in Brussels said in a statement today it has asked the European Commission, the EU’s executive agency, to overturn an Italian law giving Alitalia €700 million ($950 million) over seven years, funded by fees assessed on passengers of competing carriers.
