Ireland’s Gary Ryan has managed to qualify for the third round of the Men’s 200m competition despite finishing sixth in his heat. Ryan ran a season’s best of 20.93 to qualify from the fastest heat which ultimately provided six qualifiers from seven runners.
Controversially Great Britain's Darren Campbell was disqualified after straying from his own lane on the bend.
Their were mixed fortunes for Ireland’s female athletes as Ciara Sheehy progressed from the first round of the Women’s 200m after coming third while Sarah Reilly could only manage sixth spot in the third heat with a time of 24.03.
