In his second successive match which passed the 90 minute mark, Ryan was eventually beaten 15-10 12-15 15-8 12-15 15-11 by Scotland's sixth seed John White at the quarter-final stage.

Dubliner Ryan, currently based in Nottingham, led 10-9 in the fifth game but was unable repeat the first round upset when he dismissed Australia's fourth seed Paul Price.

Australian-born White now goes on to meet his former compatriot Peter Nicol, the Scottish-born top seed who is now playing in England colours.
