BELGRADE - A coalition of left wing parties led by Serbia's President Slobodan Milosevic is cruising to a parliamentary election victory which officials say will consolidate peace and bring prosperity to the region.
Voters across Yugoslavia, which comprises Serbia and Montenegro, went to the polls on Sunday to choose a new federal parliament, a republican assembly for Montenegro and local councils across the federation.
Yugoslavia's ruling coalition claimed a "resounding victory"
in the federal elections by winning almost two-thirds of parliamentary seats.
