RUC officers have been given the legal permission to join the United Nations International Police Task Force in Bosnia, after new measures were brought into force by the Northern Secretary, Dr Mo Mowlam. The new measures - contained in the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 1998 - will provide the statutory backing for members of the RUC to serve abroad and gain international experience.
