A former RUC constable who was cleared on appeal of murdering his wife and father in law abandoned a legal fight yesterday to remain in the force.

Mr Alan Anderson (37) had sought a judicial review in the High Court in Belfast of the RUC Chief Constable's decision to sack him. However, the application was dismissed by consent by Mr Justice Kerr at the request of Mr Anderson's lawyer.

The RUC man's sacking last December came three months after the Appeal Court quashed his convictions for murdering his estranged wife, Judith, and her father, Rev Eric Davidson, at their home in Cookstown, Co Tyrone, in December 1992.
