The Rose of Tralee Festival, which recently warned it would be unable to continue without fresh Government funding, has been allocated €320,000 in the Budget.

Mr McCreevy described it as a "once-off contribution" in recognition of the role of festival in generating tourism in the Tralee region.

Also in tourism, some €3.5 million has been allocated for international marketing and to meet costs arising from the establishment of Tourism Ireland Ltd. The annual allocation to the International Sports Tourism Initiative, which seeks to attract sporting events with tourism potential to Ireland, has been increased from €6.35 million to €7.62 million.
