Greeted with open arms by Irish music fans (initially through airplay by the likes of Donal Dineen and Donal Scannell, and latterly through Mary Black covering five of his songs on one of her albums), David Gray (above) has advanced from being an unknown quantity to one of the most in-demand singer/songwriters of the past five years. His style has changed from brilliant shouty Morrissonesque diatribes bashed away on an acoustic guitar to quite effective, trippy ballads on his platinum selling album, White Ladder. In England in particular, his stock has risen through the inclusion of his songs on the soundtrack to the film This Year's Love. David Gray plays Galway's Leisureland tomorrow, Limerick's Concert Hall on Monday and Dublin's Point theatre on Wednesday. All shows are sold out.
