Nationalist and loyalist youths hurled stones and other missiles at each other as trouble flared on the Limestone Road.

An RUC spokeswoman said order was quickly restored.

But Sinn Féin Assembly member Mr Gerry Kelly claimed loyalist paramilitaries had been present and were orchestrating the clashes in a bid to cause trouble in the run up to the Orange Order's annual parades.

"The Ulster Defence Association are clearly trying to raise tensions at a flashpoint area before the marching season," he claimed.
