Rome - The chairman of the Italian Senate's human rights committee said he had requested an informal meeting with officials of US sports group Nike. in Italy regarding allegations of human rights violations.
The move follows calls from hard-left communist Refoundation Party deputies for Italy to drop Nike sponsorship of its national football team because of the company's alleged use of child labour in the manufacture of its products in a number of Asian countries.
