Las Vegas band The Killers stole the show at Oxegen yesterday evening with a set that made them the buzz band of the day, if not the weekend.

Although they have just one album out, their set was as familiar to the crowd as a greatest hits collection. Frontman Brandon Flowers recognised the enthusiasm and took complete charge. The Killers warmed the crowd up nicely to a close that included the Foo Fighters, New Order and James Brown.

One of the highlights on the Green Stage was heavy metal flamenco outfit Rodrigo y Gabriela who managed to draw thousands of people to the smaller stage while Keane played on the main stage.

The Beautiful South kicked off yesterday's music with a rowdy sing-a-long set and with frontman Paul Heaton doing an uncanny impression of Bono.

Over on The Ticket stage, Newcastle band Maximo Park bicycle-kicked their way through an energetic Ska-influenced set that brought to mind fond comparisons with The Wedding Present.

Alabama 3 played a great set on the Green stage, while Suzanne Vega kept things chilled inside, also on the Green stage.

Outdoors, the air was throbbing with rock-and-roll as Feeder and Audioslave did their noisy thing back on the main stage. Things got crowded in anticipation of The Streets but frontman Mike Skinner got things off to a shaky start by unintentionally aggravating a good majority of the crowd with a misjudged "Hello Dublin". The resulting antagonism only served to fuel his intention to play a blinder and the set proved to be an unexpected highlight.
