A retired garda has been fined £9,800 at Ballinasloe court, Co Galway, for carrying on business as a bookmaker from a public house. William Mitchell (51), Sarsfield Road, Ballinasloe, accepted bets from Customs and Excise officials during an investigation of illegal betting at Joe's Bar, Ballinasloe, Co Galway.
