Plans for a wind farm on a hillside near Arklow, Co Wicklow, have run into opposition from local residents.

Plans for a wind farm on a hillside near Arklow, Co Wicklow, have run into opposition from local residents.

An application for permission for eight wind turbines, each 206 feet high, adjacent to Beech Road between Avoca and Arklow, was lodged recently with Wicklow Co Council.

A group formed by 126 local families has written to local councillors objecting to the wind farm on the grounds of visual amenity, noise, damage to tourism and safety.

The matter is likely to be debated at a special meeting of the council this Friday.
