Residents 'broadly in favour' of Lansdowne plan

A councillor representing people living adjacent to Lansdowne Road said "most residents were broadly in favour of the redevelopment of the site".

Labour councillor for Pembroke and South East Inner City, Mr Dermot Lacey, told ireland.comsaid most residents were resigned to the redevelopment not least because it was a better option than continuing with the current stadium.

"There are already problems, of access of noise etc, and there will be problems during the construction phase particularly for the 1,000 odd residents living on roads immediately adjacent to the site".

"But we should use this as an opportunity to address some of the problems that exist in relation to access during match days and overshadow", he said.

Cllr Lacey and his party colleague Cllr Kevin Humphreys will host a public meeting on the Government decision to redevelop Lansdowne tomorrow evening.

The IRFU chief executive Mr Philip Browne will address this meeting and take questions. Cllr Lacey said it was important that people examined the plan properly rather "than engage in knee-jerk objectionism".
