Over half of all schools in Northern Ireland complain that there are not enough high-quality substitute teachers, according to a new report from the Audit Office.

The SDLP's Mr John Dallat, a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), said he was frustrated the committee was unable to examine the report on the management of substitute cover for teachers.

"In light of this very important report, I would have liked to bring this issue to the top of the PAC's agenda as it directly impacts on virtually every household in Northern Ireland".

The committee has ceased operating since the suspension of the institutions at Stormont.
