A man charged in relation to drug offences at Waterford Regional Airport 11 days ago has been remanded in custody at the District Court in Waterford.

Zakariyou Olabowle Aminu, a Nigerian national in his 50s, with an address at Athy, Co Kildare, appeared in court yesterday in relation to possession of 3.5kg of cocaine for sale or supply.

Mr Olabowle Aminu was arrested at the airport on June 5th. Gardaí said the estimated street value of the cocaine was about €240,000.

Judge David Kennedy refused the man legal aid after a joint statement of means was provided to the court.

Insp John Mulligan applied for an adjournment for the purpose of service of the book of evidence.

Mr Olabowle Aminu will appear at Waterford District Court again on June 25th.
