Two reports on religious topics were on Parliament's agenda for the July session, one on cults in the EU and one on fundamentalism. In the event, the plenary voted to refer the report on cults back to committee, and the report on fundamentalism was rejected, following a debate in which numerous MEPs objected to the singling out of Muslim fundamentalism. Many MEPs felt that such matters should be left to the member states, under the principle of subsidiarity.
