Today is the final day that those eligible to vote in elections can ensure their names are included on the draft register of electors.
The final register will be published on February 15th next, but after that date anyone not included on the list can apply to be put on the supplemental register.
Provided they get on the supplemental register at least two weeks before an election they should be eligible to vote.
The Department of Environment carried out a major project this year to address perceived inaccuracies in the register.
Some 1,500 field workers made up to 1.25 million calls on households, and some homes were visited more than once.
As of November 21st, 505,042 names had been deleted from last year's register, and 379,394 names were added to it.
The draft register can be inspected at Garda stations, public libraries, local authority offices and post offices. It can also be viewed online at http://www.checktheregister.ie/.
Minister for the Environment Dick Roche extended the initial deadline for people to register by two weeks to today. Local authorities have until December 29th to finish their lists of voters.
