The British Culture Secretary, Mr Chris Smith, yesterday launched a five-point recovery strategy for British tourism following a meeting with leaders of the industry.
The plan covers: the development of consistent guidance and information for visitors; reopening of attractions and footpaths, where safe; financial help for tourist businesses; sending the message overseas that it's "OK in the UK" and co-operation between all parties involved in tackling the crisis.
Mr Smith said: "There are some small signs that things are getting better. Already a million people have visited the government's Open Britain website for information on visitor attractions around Britain."
