The inaugural Charles and Carol Acton travel bursary has been awarded to recorder player Ms Kate Hearne (21), from Rathfarnham, Dublin. She is a music performance student at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

The £2,000 bursary commemorates the late Irish Times music critic Mr Charles Acton, who served as governor and vice-president of the academy.
