Representatives of Liberian rebel groups and the country's former government stormed out of an inaugural disarmament meeting today in a row over government appointments, United Nations officials said.

In a joint statement, they stopped short of pulling out of the disarmament programme, due to begin in ten days, but said they would join the process only when the dispute was resolved.

The head of the current, transitional government was also at the talks.
