The sentencing of a Limerick taxi driver convicted of raping a passenger as he drove her home has been adjourned.

Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy did not hear the evidence and adjourned sentencing in full to next February.

John Ryan (43), Clonard, Westbury, was found guilty by a jury after 10 hours of deliberation over three days at the Central Criminal Court.

He had pleaded not guilty to rape and sexual assault on October 17th, 2007, after picking the woman up in his cab a short distance from a Limerick nightclub.

The jury returned majority verdicts on both counts on the ninth day of the trial.
