Caernarvonshire and Anglesy Motor Club, organisers of the first round of the British Rally Championship, are to delay the running of the Rally of Wales until the present outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease has been eradicated.

The two-day rally was scheduled to start in Wrexham on Saturday, March 10.

But Clerk of the Course, Jim Jones said: "After consultation with farmers in North and Mid-Wales the only appropriate action is for us to defer the running of the rally in the present circumstances."

"It is too early to speculate when we can run the event but we will begin discussing an alternative date with Motor Sports Association which will fit in with the existing calendar of UK rallies." - PA
