An RAF Harrier jet crashed into the sea after the pilot ejected, police said today.

An RAF Harrier jet crashed into the sea after the pilot ejected, police said today.

The aircraft went down around a mile off Lee Bay, Ilfracombe, north Devon, around 3.00 p.m.

The pilot was picked up by a Royal Navy rescue helicopter from Chivenor, north Devon, and taken back to the base.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said he no information about the pilot's condition.

An inshore lifeboat also attended the scene, added the spokesman.
