The Broadcasting Act 1988 is to be amended to facilitate the abolition of the 3 per cent levy on advertising paid by the 21 independent local radio stations to the IRTC.

The chairman of the Association of Independent Radio Stations, Mr John Purcell, said they had received a commitment this week from the Minister for Arts and Heritage, Ms Sile de Valera, to have the legislation amended in early 1998.
