NICOSIA - An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale hit the eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus at noon yesterday, shaking tall buildings, geologists said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage lain the quake, which was felt as far away as Tel Aviv.
"The earthquake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale with an epicentre of 50km south west of Paphos," said an official of the Geological Service Department.
