A former senior United Nations official, who resigned last year from his post as head of the oil-for-food programme in Iraq in protest against the sanctions, will address a public meeting on the trade embargo at Liberty Hall, Dublin, at 7.30 p.m. tomorrow.

Mr Hans von Sponeck, former UN assistant secretary general, will be joined at the meeting by Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, founding president of the peace group Pax Christi USA. The sanctions are estimated by UNICEF to be killing more than 5,000 children a month.
