Two PSNI officers were injured when they came under petrol bomb and missile attack during disturbances in Derry, police said today.
They were attacked when they moved in to stop clashes between nationalist and loyalist youths at the interface in the Fountain Street area.
Both sides targeted the officers, two of whom were injured and needed hospital treatment. The extent of their injuries was not known.
A PSNI spokeswoman said at least a dozen petrol bombs were thrown at officers as well as bricks and stones before calm was restored.
Five people were arrested following the clashes, police said later. They were all male and aged from 17 to 48.
The 48-year-old has been charged with disorderly behaviour and is expected to appear at Derry Magistrates' Court on June 11th. The four younger men were released on police bail pending further inquiries.
