A PSNI officer was injured in Belfast today in an operation to stop a motorist on a destructive hour-long driving rampage.

A PSNI  spokeswoman said officers responded to a report that a man in a "vulnerable state" had left a house in the Dunmurry area at around 8.40am and driven off, colliding with a number of parked cars on the way.

At 9.50am police spotted the vehicle on the junction of Black's Road and the Upper Lisburn Road.

The driver was finally stopped and arrested after crashing the car again.

Police said one officer was incident was injured in the incident and that the Police Ombudsman's Office has been called in to investigate.
