He underwent emergency surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

Sinn Féin MP Martin McGuinness said: ¿Connor McCusker comes from a well known and well respected family. He passed away today from injuries he received an incident outside a Cookstown nightclub on Saturday night (early Sunday morning).¿

He spoke to his father earlier today to express sympathy and support in the wake of this tragedy.

¿No family should find themselves in such a position where a son goes out for a night out and doesn¿t return home,¿ he added.

¿The PSNI investigation into Connor¿s death is ongoing and another young man has been arrested. I would urge anyone who can assist that investigation to come forward.¿

Police said the James Street area where Mr McCusker was confronted was busy and appealed for anybody with information to come forward.
