Police investigating the death of a 72-year-old man injured in an incident at a bus stop have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

John Hickey, from north Belfast, was queueing for a bus on Royal Avenue, outside Central Library in the centre of the city, at around 4.35pm last Saturday when he fell and suffered a head injury.

It is believed investigators are trying to establish if there was a disagreement at the bus stop. A man (30) was arrested but was later released pending further inquiries.

Detectives said a nurse had offered first aid at the scene before the injured man was taken to hospital, where he has since died. Officers appealed for the medic to come forward.

Police said the investigation into the circumstances of the incident which happened on January 21st is ongoing.

Officers asked for anyone with information to contact detectives.
