Background: One of those who declared against Mr John Bruton in the November heave, he last week declared his support for Mr Noonan. He had been serving as a junior spokesman on Labour Affairs and Consumer Rights.

Elected to the Dail at his first attempt in 1989, he won the seat formerly held by his father, Mr Donal Creed.

Position: Spokesman on Western Development

Background: Mr Reynolds acted as campaign manager for Mr Jim Mitchell in leadership battle.

He came out against Mr John Bruton in the original heave in November.

The profile of his appointment would also be seen as a boost as he faces the challenge of independent candidate Ms Marion Harkin at the next General Election.

Ms Olivia Mitchell

Constituency: Dublin South

Age: 53

Position: Housing and Local Government

Background: Ms Mitchell, previously close to Mr John Bruton, was one of the first party members to declare against him two weeks ago, and subsequently declared her support for Mr Noonan.

She has had a high profile as spokeswoman on traffic, and has been vocal on taxi shortages and during the debate on deregulation.

Mr Paul Bradford

Constituency: Cork East

Age: 37

Position: Chief Whip

Background: Given his success as campaign manager for Mr Noonan's leadership campaign it was no surprise to see Mr Bradford selected yesterday for a prominent position.

A relatively low profile Dail deputy, he has previously served on a Fine Gael front bench. Currently, he is a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children.

Mr Dinny McGinley

Constituency: Donegal South-West

Age: 55

Position: Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands

Background: Mr McGinley has been serving as a junior spokesman on Islands, Gaeltacht and Western Development.

He is particularly vocal on Irish language issues. He is the only Fine Gael TD in Co Donegal.

He did not declare support publicly for any candidate in last week's leadership contest.
