A group of eight remand prisoners which supports the splinter republican paramilitary group known as the Continuity Army Council has been transferred to the high security Portlaoise Prison.
The group, which is being held on arms and robbery charges, has been held in Limerick Prison for a year. Republican Sinn Fein, the party which is close in its thinking to the Continuity Army Council, yesterday claimed that a woman prisoner, Josephine Hayden, was being held in "atrocious conditions" in Limerick Prison.
