Six inmates are facing disciplinary action after a disturbance in Castlerea Prison.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when the prisoners caused damage to their cells by smashing television sets and breaking glass.
Three of the six inmates were taken to hospital from the Co Roscommon prison with minor injuries.
It is understood that the prisoners might have been protesting at being moved to Castlerea from the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise.
“The governor had to instruct the control and restraint team to enter the landing to bring the matter under control, which they did very effectively and efficiently,” an Irish Prison Service spokesman said.
“No staff were injured and the six prisoners will be subject to disciplinary measures.”
No other inmates are thought to have been involved in the disturbance.
