A ballot for industrial action of 220 prison staff at Limerick Prison following the slashing of a prison officer a fortnight ago has been deferred pending the outcome of a review on security issues, writes Eibhir Mulqueen, Midwest Correspondent. A meeting was held yesterday in Dublin between the general secretary of the Prison Officers Association, Mr Denis McGrath, and the director-general of the Prison Authority, Mr Sean Aylward.
Mr McGrath said an agreement had been reached to review the security situation after the attack by inmates on prison officer Mr Alan Kavanagh, who had to receive 65 stitches to his neck and face. The review is to be completed by February 14th.
