Priest guilty of sex assaults on boy

A Co Waterford priest has been given a three year suspended sentence for indecently assaulting a schoolboy twenty years ago.

A Co Waterford priest has been given a three year suspended sentence for indecently assaulting a schoolboy twenty years ago.

Fr Con Desmond (71), with an address given as a parish house Knockerra, Cooraclare in Co Clare, assaulted the boy while he was principal of a De La Salle national school in Waterford.

The court heard he abused the boy three times in his office and three times in a car on unknown dates between January 1 st, 1982 and June 24 th, 1983.

Desmond, who is currently suspended as a priest, was placed on a bond of good behaviour for four years.

His name was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for five years and ordered to pay compensation to his victim.
