London - A white police sergeant who was highly praised in the Stephen Lawrence report for improving relations with ethnic minorities was charged yesterday with raping a black woman and committing perjury during the Lawrence inquiry.
Sgt Peter Solley OBE (47) was charged with nine counts of rape and one of perjury after attending Belgravia police station in central London yesterday morning, Scotland Yard said. The officer, who has spent 10 years as a community liaison officer working with anti-racist groups in south London, was due to appear before Bow Street Magistrates Court later.
