Power restored after south Dublin outage

Tens of thousands of people were without power in south Dublin city for around an hour this afternoon.

Tens of thousands of people were without power in south Dublin city for around an hour this afternoon.

An ESB spokesman said its engineers worked "frantically" to restore power to thousands of homes and businesses in the throughout the south city.

The outage affected services throughout the south of the city, stretching from Ranelagh and Donnybrook to Rathgar, Terenure, Templeogue, Rathfarnham, Kilmainham, Rialto, Crumlin and Kimmage.

Several traffic lights were not working but AA Roadwatch did not report major disruption.

An ESB spokesman said the electricity supply was cut at around 2.20 p.m. when a third-party contractor accidentally cut a major transmission cable on Marylebone Lane.

Power was erstored around one hour later.
