A Portuguese carpenter who tried to steal a woman's handbag has accepted the choice he was given by Judge Yvonne Murphy of going home rather than remaining here as a guest of the State.
Henrique Moreira (28) was given a one-year suspended sentence by Judge Murphy at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on condition that he present himself to the Garda National Immigration Bureau at Mountjoy Prison next Wednesday. He will then be taken to Dublin Airport for his departure.
Moreira, of James Street, Dublin, pleaded guilty to assault of Ms Gemma Hendy at Golden Lane on September 9th, 1999.
