Vatican City - Pope John Paul praised the work of the United Nations' World Food Programme yesterday, saying the emergency relief agency was leading the fight in reducing hunger amongst impoverished children.

The World Food Programme, the UN's leading food aid agency, recently announced plans to begin a school-based feeding programme which in pilot schemes has helped increase school attendance and reduced hunger among children.
