PLAN'S are being made to introduce drug testing in Irish sport this year, the House was told. The Minister of State for Education, Mr Bernard Allen, said different options were being considered before making a decision.

The Minister, who has responsibility for youth affairs, was speaking during a resumed debate on the Budget. Work had been done, he said, on an education programme that would facilitate the introduction of drug testing.

He had asked the leaders of all parties in the House to submit their future sports priorities.

Mr Eric Byrne (DL, Dublin South Central) said the PD mantra was looking threadbare.
