Cincinnati - A judge yesterday acquitted a white Cincinnati police officer of charges related to the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man in April that triggered days of race riots in the city.

Judge Ralph "Ted" Winkler, ruling without a jury, ruled Mr Stephen Roach (27) was justified in shooting Timothy Thomas, whom the officer said shot when Thomas ignored orders to show his hands and appeared to go for a gun.
