Police have released two men arrested in connection with suspected "Real IRA" bomb attacks in London and Birmingham.

A man (42) from Nottinghamshire and a man (43) from Gloucestershire were released last night without charge, a Scotland Yard spokeswoman said.

The two were arrested on Wednesday by anti-terrorist police officers and held in Leeds under the Terrorism Act 2000.

Police are continuing the investigation into a series of bombings last year. Attacks occurred outside the BBC's London headquarters, in Ealing, west London, and in Birmingham.

No one was injured in the three attacks, which were blamed on the "Real IRA", a dissident republican group opposed to the Northern Ireland peace process.

Two other men appeared at the Old Bailey last month, accused of mounting a bombing campaign in Britain that included the three attacks. Their hearing was adjourned until May.
